Your Common Questions Answered
Knowing what types, styles and clearance you need to consider when specifying outdoor heaters to your projects can be challenging at the best of times, especially when there are so many other considerations and client requirements you must manage. Learn how to provide the best heat without sacrifice.
To help answer some of your common questions we asked our heating specialists Joseph Linden and Leonardo Murata to explain the common clearance pitfalls and challenges our architectural customers have encountered when specifying outdoor heaters in their projects.
Joseph and Leonardo go onto say that the top seven common questions they get asked regarding heating clearances are;
Q: What is the requirement for clearances to sprinkler heads? (halo system)
A: We recommend a minimum of 3ft. off the side of heater head and 5ft. away if it is in front of (in heaters path) the heater. As sprinkler systems have different heat ratings and are a highly important safety feature to any project it would be ideal that a Bromic Heating Specialist be consulted.
Q: Is there an ideal clearance to awnings?
A: Min. 3ft. general rule of thumb (may vary depending on fabric heat rating and awning style). We always suggest trying to work in collaboration at an early stage of your project to avoided any last-minute changes or unexpected issues.
Q: How far should the clearances be to a TV?
A: Min. 3ft. off the sides of heater and 5ft. away if in front of (in heaters path) the heater (heater clearances off the sides may vary depending on orientation of the TV and the heater) Contact a Bromic Heating specification rep. for further clarification on your specific installation requirements.
Q: Will our ceiling fans have enough clearances?
A: Min. 3ft. general rule of thumb (may vary depending on mounting height and fan blade material) Contact a Bromic Heating specification rep. for further clarification on your specific installation requirements.
Q: Are there any general heater clearances we need to consider?
A: Yes of course, the following are our recommended installation clearances. However, ensure you consult your technicians and read the instruction manuals before installation
- Side of heater to side wall: 3’ min.
- Wall mounted heaters – 8’ min. in between each heater (on center)
- 8’ from finished floor to bottom of heater head
- 14” from top of heat deflector to ceiling
- 3’ from top of heater head to ceiling when heat deflector is not used
- 15’ min. when heaters are directly facing each other
Q: Are there any installation codes we should be aware of?
A: Always refer to the product instruction manual which is located on our website & check any relevant government regulations.
