Sinks are a great addition to the Outdoor Kitchen but you want to know some information to help make them trouble free. First, there isn’t any differences between Outdoor and Indoor Sinks. To select an outdoor sink, select a heavier gauge (16-18G) of 304 grade Stainless Steel that comes equipped with a cover. Sink covers provide protection from debris that will make the sink hard to keep clean and can clog the trap. In some areas of the country sink covers are required to pass local code and inspections, codes will also require that the drain water be returned to a dry well or the city waste system for the house. Installing a drain and allowing the waste water to just run out of the pipe down a hill will draw in bugs and some small friends that will love the new outdoor hotel you just built. Both drop-in and undermount sinks are available and will work fine outdoors. It is wise to spend the most money on the faucet. Faucets made of Stainless Steel or Nickel are far better than Zinc and the finish will last a much longer time. Also, try to pick a faucet with all metal interior parts they will overwinter much better than plastic interior parts. Both Hot & Cold water faucets can be installed but you will need to check the distance since drawing hot water from the house can take a long time. If you purchased a hot & cold water faucet the hot and cold can be plumbed together to make it a cold water faucet only. The installation should include a blow out port on the water lines to allow air to move the water out of the faucet for winterizing in areas where freezing is expected.
