Choosing the right burner can be a bit confusing unless you’re familiar with fire pits and their burner inserts, you probably don’t know the ins and outs of a burner. One of the most confusing parts can be the selection of a Flat Pan or Bowl Pan and what is the best Pan style for your application. Lets take a look at the Pan and what it is designed to do.

The Fire Pit Pan plays an important part in certifications and safety. The pan is generally sized 6-8″ in size more than the burner size, this helps keep the heat from the burner set back from the inside diameter of the Fire Pit Enclosure and also keeps the fire in scale to the size of fire pit. The Pan also plays an important function by keeping any un-burnt gas from seeping into the fire pit media that could result in an explosion. In addition to those important safety aspects, the pan also hold the fire pit media so you can cover the burner with a fire pit media. The flat pan is my favorite style to install. The flat pan is easy to install at lower heights inside the fire pit enclosure allowing you to lower the burner 4-6 inches below the cap stone. The pan is flat so it can just rest on a ledge made of stone or angle iron in the enclosure at the desired height. The bowl style pan has a 1.3 inch flap lip all the way around the pan to allow the burner to hang from the cap or countertop. These are burners are better suited for fire tables or countertops.  Fire Pit Pans come in different shapes and sizes and it always best to pick your pan size first before building your enclosure.
